Ready to add a new skill to your fiber arts tool kit? Come join the fun and learn how to make silk fusion (also known as silk paper). Made from silk roving and other embellishment fibers, silk fusion is simple to make and adaptable to many fiber arts projects. Silk fusion can be cut, stitched, molded, and embellished. Use it to create mosaic tiles and stitch them to your art quilt. Cut and layer beautiful selections and make a unique wall hanging or card. One can even mold silk fusion into an artful silk vase. You can even fold the paper into boxes or use it to make a cover for a special book. In this skill-building class, students will learn how to make silk fusion. Students will be walked step-by-step through the process. Additionally, we will discuss possible embellishment fibers that can be added in addition to tussah silk. The class will conclude with a look at the many ways silk fusion can be utilized in fiber arts projects. Please note: This is a skill-building class. Students will not make the elk project featured in the photo. Instead, students will make silk fusion that they can use for their project. Silk fusion must dry overnight before it can be cut. Students will not be able to cut their silk fusion during the class, but they will learn how to remove it from the screen and utilize it in projects.
